Revive Your Floors with Timber Stain Remover

Spills and stains are a fact of life, but they can take their toll on natural wood surfaces, so it’s a good idea to have timber stain remover on hand.

Timber stain remover is specially formulated to deal with stains caused by water, grease, acids (such as wine) and other liquids. While most stains can be cleaned up without issue, liquids that sink into the timber’s grain can be harder to deal with.

To make sure your floors and furniture are ready for the rough and tumble of everyday life, Quicksand Supplies stocks a range of stain removing products. With a selection that includes products from leading European manufacturers such as WOCA, we can make sure your floors look fantastic for decades to come.

Our timber stain removers are suitable for timber floors, furniture, benchtops and other surfaces. If you’re dealing with tannin stains, water marks, wine spills, cooking grease or something else entirely, our stain removers can make light work of any unwanted marks.

What Causes Tannin Stains?

Tannin stains are a brown, tan or black discolouration on timber surfaces. They’re caused when water (usually from spills) is left sitting on the timber. This dissolves the tannins and allows them to migrate towards the surface of the wood. If you have ever moved a plant pot and discovered a stain underneath – that’s a tannin stain.

You can prevent tannin stains by cleaning up any spills as quickly as you can. Don’t forget to place things such as plant pots on a water-proof drip tray.

If you do end up with tannin marks on floors or furniture, you’ll need a timber stain remover that’s designed for tannins.

Products such as WOCA’s Tannin Spot Remover are designed to dissolve the tannic acid that is staining your floor. Simply follow the directions on the bottle and you should be able to wipe the tannin stain away in a few simple steps!

How to Remove Stains from Timber Floors

Floors often become stained by spills such as water, wine, coffee and cooking grease. These stains soak into the timber and can be difficult to remove. Always clean any spills as soon as they occur to reduce the likelihood of staining, and make sure the timber is protected with an oil or wax surface treatment.

If you are dealing with a stain on a timber floor, you can use WOCA Wood Stain Remover to remove the mark by:

  1. Applying an even layer of timber stain remover to the stain.
  2. Allow the product to sit on the wood for 15-20 minutes to begin dissolving the stain.
  3. Use a scouring pad to gently scrub the stain until the mark has dissolved. If the stain persists, wipe the surface clean and repeat steps 2 and 3.
  4. Once the stain has dissolved, wipe the surface clean with a damp cloth.
  5. Allow the floor to dry completely. Reapply the original surface finish to establish a new layer of protection. Oiled floors should also be treated with a product such as WOCA Maintenance Gel.

Timber stain removers provide excellent cleaning power. We recommend testing stain remover on an inconspicuous part of your flooring before tackling a difficult stain.
